look like August to you??

This was the view from my window this morning once I got around to opening the blinds after a VERY early get up time of 4:45am. It will burn off but in the meantime it doesn’t exactly scream “summer” does it?!
We were up this early because Chelsea and Rich, together with their good friends Shanna and Perry, are doing a weekend backpacking trip from Marblemount to Stehekin. The original plan was that they drove to Marblemount and left a car there and we picked them up in Chelan (Stehekin isn’t accessible by car so they have to take a 4hr boat ride on ‘The Lady of the Lake’ down to Chelan) on Sunday having spent the night there. We realized fairly quickly that we weren’t going to be able to squeeze 6 people plus backpacking equipment and a wheelchair into our car so that meant David would just do the drive by himself to get them. Well it’s 3 hours from here to Chelan without traffic, another 3 1/2 hours on the North Cascade highway to Marblemount and then just over another 2 hours home from there. That’s a lot of time to be sitting (and yes, I know how tired you get of sitting down all the time!) so a last minute change of plan had everyone driving here and then David dropping them off this morning and going back to pick them up on Sunday – less driving and no cars sitting out for 3 days so a much better deal all round. I got up with David and then just decided to stay up so we’ll both be ready for an early night tonight I think and we’re not even the ones hiking all day! ; )

David made it back here about 12:45 pm and we raced off to Kanishka’s – our all time favourite Indian place for lunch. It was wonderful as always – we are REALLY going to miss it when we leave here in a couple of weeks. Anyway, once we’d stuffed ourselves with their goodies we came home and took a nap ; )

Before he hit the sack though, David showed me the pictures he took this morning of the start of the kids backpacking trip. Looks fabulous so enjoy ; )

About girlonahandcycle

Natural Brit/Naturalized American wife, mom, grandma and all around old broad still happily ignoring my MS (since 1985 - ha!). Every time it slows me down I find a way to speed back up which explains my very cool Tilite wheelchair and Top End handcycle ..........also my ripped arms ; ) Don't get back to the homeland or to other cool places quite as easily or often as I'd like anymore so theoretically my rambling here keeps me a little more connected to far away friends and family.
