This is how David used to keep in touch when he was away working – now how archaic does that seem??!
Very, given the fact that his current trip took him to Boston, Amsterdam and Mumbai and he’s called me multiple times from every place. And of course yes, by called…… I mean video-chatted. Do they even have hotel stationery anymore?? Once upon a time he would leave on an international trip for a couple of weeks and I’d only hear from him before he got back if he could give one of his letters to a pilot heading back to the states to mail for him. I hung on to a few as you can tell from the picture, just to remind me of how different things used to be (and how jet-lag would make him forget to put enough postage on!). There was one famous trip when Taryn had an emergency appendectomy while he was gone but she’d had it,recovered and been discharged by the time he got home and heard anything about it. Most of the time he didn’t miss anything quite that exciting but you could guarantee that if anything went wrong it would be when he was the other side of the world!
Nowadays he couldn’t miss anything if he tried since I think we talk to each other more often when he’s on a trip than when he’s home. Things do still wait to break down until he’s away though 😉
A couple of nights ago I was sitting by the computer talking to him in Mumbai and this was the view out of our windows if I turned my head
all I had to do to show him the great sunset with the moon and Venus putting in an appearance was to turn the computer screen and he could see it all……..even the cargo ship heading out to Pusan. Makes it a pretty small world doesn’t it!
